The Night Shift

The Night Shift PosterIt ended up being a little weirder than this, but I wrote this as a study of boredom. Eventually I realized that at the core of most instances of boredom is depression, and then I also realized that I like pizza. So all those things collided and this thing happened.

I made this for a cinematography class project in San Francisco, CA while studying at the Academy of Art University. I very unhealthily romanticize that time of my life, so I look back at this absurd, a little overlong, a little unfinished (long story… actually no, my hard drive broke, that’s it) and a little amateurish film with great fondness. I have as much fun watching it as I did making it… which means maybe something is wrong with me. Help.

Thanks to (deep breath) Genoa Annis, David Jones, Javier Fernandez, Amanda Rae Alfonso, Justin Doescher, Jp Diaz, Richard Ferreyra, Kenji Hirai, Deane Dykes Carstensen, “SLICK” Ricky Lewis, and the Academy of Art University for not kicking my ass out.

Kind of my first trailer, made in the David Fincher school of “use intriguing imagery to pull the audience in” trailer editing! Though I did convey the info with text, it was fun, simply because it’s such a weird movie visually, and I get a kick out of some of the visuals. Also I cut it to “The National Anthem” by Radiohead, and I think it made for a pretty fun montage at the end.
